Twenty botanicals. Seven worth knowing.
Every Mantra formula is built from a documented set of Ayurvedic botanicals. These seven set the line apart.
Kumkumadi
A classical Ayurvedic oil — saffron, sandalwood, and over a dozen co-botanicals in a sesame base. Used for centuries to brighten and refine. Documented in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India.
Most Western brands chasing an Ayurvedic story use a single extract. Mantra uses the classical tailam — the compound preparation, intact.
Bakuchi
Used in Ayurvedic skincare for centuries — and the most studied plant-based alternative to retinol. Delivers gradual texture refinement and tone evening, without the redness synthetic retinoids cause.
Mantra uses Bakuchi at 30% in the Prana Night Serum — the highest concentration in the line, paired with Brahmi (10%) and Ashwagandha (10%) oils.
Ashwagandha
The root the West rediscovered through supplements and sleep aids. In skincare, it calms, strengthens, and supports the barrier — particularly under stress.
Mantra uses Ashwagandha oil at 10% in the Prana Night Serum, alongside Brahmi and Bakuchi. A serious concentration of a root that most brands gesture at, rather than formulate with.
Triphala
A tri-herb compound — Amla, Haritaki, Bibhitaki. One of the most studied formulations in the Ayurvedic canon, documented in the Ayurvedic Formulary of India.
Mantra uses Triphala at 5% in the Triphala Night Cream — the formula it gives its name to. Paired with Gotu Kola and Manjistha for restorative overnight repair.
Gotu Kola
Known as Gotu Kola in Ayurveda. Known as Cica in Korean skincare. The same botanical — Centella asiatica — clinically validated across both traditions for soothing, strengthening, and barrier repair.
For men's skin, where daily shaving compromises the barrier repeatedly, this matters. Mantra uses it at 3% in the Triphala Night Cream.
Manjistha
Rubia cordifolia. One of Ayurveda's primary botanicals for skin clarity — used for centuries to address uneven tone, post-inflammatory marks, and dullness.
Manjistha is virtually absent from Western luxury skincare. Mantra uses it across three formulas — Day Serum (3.5%), Day Moisturizer (3%), Night Cream (2.5%) — at meaningful concentrations. One of the clearest signals these formulas were built from Ayurvedic knowledge, not assembled from a trend report.
Licorice
Glycyrrhiza glabra. One of the most clinically studied botanicals in skincare — recognized by dermatologists for its role in tone evening and reducing hyperpigmentation.
Mantra uses Licorice at meaningful concentrations across three formulas — Cleanser (3%), Day Moisturizer (5%), Day Serum (5%). It works alongside the niacinamide in our daytime formulas, addressing tone through complementary mechanisms.
